Ricky Raw
Ricky Raw, an Atlanta native has played nearly every style of modern music. Starting off playing bass guitar in a punk rock band with Dj Knick (of Evol Intent and Ludachrist) and good friend Cary, Ricky was no stranger to the stage by the young age of 15. The trio then moved into a Ska-Punk band that lasted through their high school careers. Next Ricky moved on to Dj’ing drum and bass music and quickly grew to be a southeastern favorite known as “DJ GUNDO.”
He played in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and of course all through his home state, Georgia. ??Moving along, Ricky soon got into the production end of drum and bass which ultimately lead to producing hip hop. After about two years of producing hip hop beats, naturally, he began to rap or “flow,” as he puts it, over his own beats. Eventually this grew into freestyling at parties which carried him down to Apache Cafe for the “WORLD FAMOUS MIC CLUB,” hosted by DRES THA BEATNIK. Winning over 20 freestyle battles and several written performance battles in only a few months time, Ricky quickly gained the respect of all of the MC’s and hip hop fans who regularly attended Mic Club.
Since then Mr. Raw has released two full length albums, two full length mix tapes, been featured on countless other projects, and toured over 25 states with acts such as KRS ONE, THE PHARCYDE, DJ KLEVER, C RAYZ WALLS, HANGAR 18, EYEDEA AND ABILITIES, BONE CRUSHER, GLUE, CUNNIN LYNGUISTS, COOOL BREEEZ, KHUJO GOODIE of GOODIE MOB, EVOL INTENT and most recently TRILL BASS. Ricky’s sound can be described as nothing short of very diverse by his fans who see him rocking hip hop, drum and bass, breaks, dubstep and many other types of shows. However, his solo projects remain on the “true school” hip hop side of things with a lot of southern influence. His first solo effort, labeled “The Good Fight” was produced by TREASURE FINGERS, GIGANTOR and RICKY RAW himself. The latest release, “The Green Album,” was produced solely by Wes Green which allowed Ricky to focus on the lyrical side of the music. This album is much more mellow and “grown and mature…” You can expect to hear another full length album during mid summer 2009 and more each and every year.
